Sick computer?

Nurse with sick computer

spacerHaving a computer at home is great, and these days it's almost as necessary a piece of equipment as your telephone or TV, but who do you turn to when things go wrong with it? How do you know if you're getting the best performance from your investment? Most of the stores you buy computers from these days are quite happy to provide you with the PC, the software and all the bits and pieces that go along with it, but just try to get technical support and advice afterwards, and that's a whole new situation! Endless waiting in phone queues while being forced to listen to inane and repetitive music such as that tinny version of "Greensleeves" isn't what you want or expect, yet this is what you have to endure most of the time.

The best way to repair a sick machine is right in your own home!

spacerDon't get involved in the time-consuming hassle of unplugging everything, loading your equipment in the car and lugging it across town to some repair shop, paying prices upward of €80 an hour (or more!),worried lady where it might lie on a shelf for God knows how long before you see it again...Another consideration is that your whole system, and all you have on it, are open to scrutiny during that time. Okay, you don't have anything in there that could land you in trouble with the law, but do you really want a group of strangers looking through your private e-mails, memos or photos? We will call to see you (within our catchment area) at your convenience, to troubleshoot or upgrade your Microsoft Windows© - based computer, right on the spot, and in your presence. What better way is there to diagnose a machine than to leave it where it's always used, and recreate the problem(s) right there and then? You show us the issue(s), and we diagnose and fix it for you, there and then. f for any reason an issue can't be corrected (or resolved by a reasonable work-around, different, or often more efficient method), of course there's no charge for our time, and if the task is over both our heads, (which CAN sometimes happen...It's not an ideal world!...), we'll let you know, and there'll be no charge. We really dont want to waste our time, and certainly not yours!!

spacerWhen you leave your PC into a repair shop, they've no idea how you use it, or where your valuable data may be stored... All too often, their answer to a problem is to format your hard drive, and start from scratch....When they do this, you've lost everything you ever installed or saved on your machine. On the same subject, if ever you have a problem you can't solve, DO NOT run the "recovery CD" that came with your computer, even if the retailer recommends it. This will re-set your PC back to a "default" condition, which also means all your personal data and programs are gone for good!

Keeping your valuable data safe.

The Golden Rule of computing is this: You should always make regular backups of anything you can't afford to lose! Things to back up are: The "My Documents" folder, including any other folders in which you've saved documents, pictures, forms, or application data. All downloaded and setup files, your e-mails, passwords, financial records, program groups, etc. ANYTHING YOU WANT SAVED, BACK IT UP!

spacerFor most computer users, the value of the data stored on their machine far outweighs the cost of the hardware which houses it. For this reason, I fitted two removable hard drive caddies to my own PC, which means that each time I shut it down, I can take both drives out and store them in a safe place, so that even if anything were to happen to the system itself, all of my data is still intact. I can supply and fit these to your PC at a very reasonable cost.
